Croquet

Croquet Overview

Dating back to the days of Nathanial Greeley, and the first meetings of the WVAIA, in 1888, croquet has been a part of our organization. The court, situated off Snow Mountain Road, between the tennis courts and the golf course, with a fabulous view of the valley walls to the west, is on the former site of the old Snow Mountain swimming pool, where Hans Rey used to swim each morning of the non-snow season; and in the winter, the children played hockey and skated there.

The season begins in July and runs through the summer, every Sunday afternoon at 3PM. Play normally lasts two hours, and is accompanied by potluck drinks and nibbles. The season concludes on Labor Day, at which time everyone wears the traditional white clothing [the rest of the summer, whites are not the norm]

The course will be set up by 2:45 for practices and the games will begin promptly at 3:00 and end at 5:00. Bring a beverage of your choice for personal use and a snack to share. We request that participants be a member of the WVAIA. No prior sign up is required. Just come and enjoy the fun!
